IMKON Centre Opens in Samarkand During the Summit

As part of the international summit “Investing in Children’s Wellbeing: A Path Toward Sustainable and Just Development for Future Generations”, the opening ceremony of the IMKON centre took place in Samarkand. It was attended by First Lady of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ziroat Mirziyoyeva, as well as the First Ladies and high-level guests taking part in the summit.

The centre, part of the system of the National Agency for Social Protection under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, combines preschool education, special-needs teaching support and comprehensive rehabilitation. Each child’s programme is built around their individual needs. Parents can receive guidance from specialists to reinforce the skills their child has learned at home.

The preschool department has 150 places and includes 10 specialised groups for children aged 2 to 7. The outpatient department can take around 100 children a month, aged 2 to 18, for rehabilitation courses.

The centre offers therapeutic exercise, speech and fine-motor development, sensory integration sessions, physiotherapy and other treatments. Its staff include doctors in seven specialties, special-needs teachers (defectologists), speech therapists, psychologists, rehabilitation specialists and others.

The Samarkand centre is the newest part of the IMKON network, which also includes facilities in Nukus, Qibray, Karshi and Zarafshan. In 2025, the network’s facilities provided more than 546,000 treatments and sessions, and 3,777 children completed outpatient rehabilitation.

The network continues to grow: construction of a centre has begun in Fergana, and similar facilities are planned in Namangan and in Nurafshan, Tashkent region.
