On the Sidelines of the Summit: UNICEF Regional Director Visits a Preschool in Samarkand

As you know, on 21–22 October Samarkand will host the World Summit “Investing in Children’s Wellbeing: A Pathway to Sustainable and Equitable Development for Future Generations”.

Representatives of foreign delegations taking part in the Summit, in particular Édouard Beigbeder, UNICEF Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, and the Middle East and North Africa, and representatives of UNICEF’s office in Tashkent, visited State Preschool No. 67 in Samarkand.

During the visit, the guests got a close look at the conditions created for the children, the education and upbringing process, and activities aimed at the children’s all-round development.

The guests were also presented with the new preschool curriculum being introduced under the SmartED project, including modern and inclusive educational approaches based on the “Ilk Qadam” (First Step) state curriculum.

For reference: Preschool No. 67 currently has 360 children enrolled. Three of them are children with special educational needs, who attend inclusive groups.
