From Request to Practical Help: Journalists in Samarkand Learn About the Work of the “Inson” Center

A press tour for local journalists is taking place at the “Inson” Social Services Center in Samarkand. The visit is one of the events held as part of the World Summit on Investing in Children’s Wellbeing.

The focus is on how people in need are identified, how their needs are assessed and how the necessary services are organised. Journalists are being told how citizens’ requests are received and how their resolution is monitored.

What has changed now that social services reach all the way to the mahalla? According to the information presented, 80 per cent of the issues raised in requests are now resolved directly at the mahalla level. Over the past three years, more than 600,000 people and families in need have been newly identified. This shows that, alongside working with those who come asking for help, attention is also being paid to actively identifying people who need support.

Across the country, 208 “Inson” centers and 9,000 social workers in mahallas are involved in this work. The number of types of social services and assistance has grown from 23 in 2023 to 140 in 2026, 45 of which relate to the protection of children’s rights.

The press tour makes it possible to link the issues of supporting children and families to be discussed at the Summit with the practice of social services in the mahalla.
